Meet Our Optometrist, Dr. Rahul Joshi
Dr. Rahul Joshi was born in Toronto and has grown up in Pickering, ON. Upon completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, he attended the University of Waterloo to obtain his Doctor of Optometry. In addition to graduating on the Dean’s Honours List, he received the FYidoctors Clinical Leadership Award and the Canadian Association of Optometrists Award of Merit. These awards recognized his outstanding leadership, academic achievement and commitment to community service.
Dr. Joshi received extensive training working in numerous clinical settings across the country, where he managed many diseases of the eye including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and dry eye disease. Prior to initiating his optometric education, Dr. Joshi was involved in eye care through his research on age-related macular degeneration at the St. Michael’s hospital. During his time at Waterloo, he served as the President of the Canadian Association of Optometry Students, where he led his team to help carry out numerous programs to enhance Canadian optometric education and raise awareness for eye care. His burning desire for community service led him on a volunteer eye care mission in Peru, which was organized by VOSH International; here he helped provide free eye care to over 3900 patients!
Dr. Joshi provides eye care to all ages, which include fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses, emergency services, pre- & post-operative eye care, and management of eye disease. He has a special interest in ocular disease, in particular Dry Eye Disease. He is fluent in three other languages – Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi.
In his free time, Dr. Joshi loves playing soccer, watching the Toronto Raptors, and enjoys traveling with his family and friends. Dr. Joshi is thrilled to be back in his hometown, ready to serve the Region of Durham.
